Report 077 Top Catch King of Jetskifishing 5... 25th of March 2012

The day had come again to see who would earn the title of the newest King of Jetskifishing. With this bi-annual event being the fifth King of Jetskifishing, we were back for the exciting shot gun start off Eastern Beach in Auckland. The weather forecasted was making for a tough decision to go ahead with a start… After some quick restructuring and some additional safety measures it was all on for comp day. The skis started heading into the beach for the briefing just after 7am on the Sunday morning. All entrants, on registration at the Berkley tent received the complimentary King of Jetskifishing Tournament bag full with sponsors goodies.
Despite the weather, the turnout was still strong with 53 anglers eager and ready for a wet Jetskifishing session. It is compulsory for all entrants to register for the early morning start, so every angler has an equal fishing window. The majority of entrants chose to launch at the boat ramps located on the other side of Bucklands Beach Peninsula, assuring sufficient water for retrieval of their skis later in the day. The visibility was limited with constant rain, all anglers were eager and well prepared for the conditions to have a chance at the generous $6,000 prize pool.

There was a scheduled riders briefing detailing safety precautions for the event, including updates on the weather, with the option of any less confident anglers to pull out of the comp…
As with the traditional shot gun start, the chopper punctually arrived and prompted all entrants to assemble on the start line.
This King of Jetskifishing Tournament had entrants travel from as far away as Whakatane and KeriKeri. You can see why with the excitement of this start!

With the popularity and growth of the event, we continue seeing entrants taking advantage of the rental ski option. Here is Steve with an introduction to the sport.
The weather condition reduced the fishing grounds to a smaller area, limiting all anglers to the region of Waiheke Island. Was great to see everyone putting safety first and taking time to check if fellow Jetskifisho’s were coping with the conditions. After a long day on the water, as 3.30pm approached the anglers were making their way to the weigh in and prize giving.
The weather turned out great and made for a great afternoon! Everyone had plenty of stories from on the water with plenty of excitement of the roughest water shot gun start yet.
There are plenty of photos to view at the Jetskifishing Facebook page, here are just a few…

The prize table was looking impressive along with the prestigious glass trophies, thanks to Craig from Metro Glasstech
Once again, I thank all our loyal sponsors and welcome all the new ones that have jumped onboard with our latest Jetskifishing events. The latest King of Jetskifishing is Graham Wallace who travelled up from Tauranga, his catch a 2.16 kilo Snapper on a hard days fishing. It was great to see so many of the out of town Jetskifisho’s receiving a good amount of top prizes on the day. The average Snapper was won by Steve Cooper from Whakatane receiving $500 Cash. There were no Kingfish weighed in, so all the prizes for that category were drawn as raffles.
All places, prizes and categories are listed below, thanks to all those who assisted and entered and I look forward to the King of Jetskifishing 6, scheduled for October 28th 2012.
